How it works
Waves
The Marine Institute's Irish Shelf wave model, 2.5 km cells, hourly for six days: height, swell, period and direction at the nearest sea cell to each beach. Only energy through the beach's own swell window counts.
Wind
Met Éireann's hourly forecast, judged against which way the beach faces: offshore flattens a dip and cleans a wave, onshore chops both. Facing and window come from the model's own coastline.
Tide and light
Marine Institute predictions at 38 stations, highs and lows found for you, plus sunrise and sunset. Prefer high or low tide and the score follows.
Water and warmth
EPA grades and live bathing notices straight from the source, sea temperature from the buoys, and the nearest of 92 beach saunas for after.
